Cardiff Chess Club has won this season’s Welsh Chess Premier League (WCPL), a highly competitive league featuring some of the strongest players in Wales. Teams of six compete for the top spot and a chance to qualify for the prestigious European Club Cup, where many of the world’s best players take part.
Cardiff has decided to take on the challenge and will be competing in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia, this October. Though considered underdogs, they are eager to give it their all and gain valuable experience against the elite.
The WCPL also hosted an U1850 section which Cardiff also had a team called Cardiff Tigers. Cardiff Tigers finished in a respectable 3rd. The below tables show the final standings in the WCPL Main and WCPL U1850 sections.
